WOGHL Meeting

June 25, 2011

12 in Attendance.

Meeting began at 1:15 pm.

The AGM could not be carried out since there were not enough associations in attendance to have a quorum to vote on anything.

Discussion on League Play-Split Season

This was done with Novice last year and worked very well.  Could this be done with Novice, Atom and PW.  This might be a good thing to do with OWHA new rules and re-categorizing the teams.

It might also be good for Bantam and Midget or just do this with Bantam and Midget where associations have B, C and HL teams that are put into the same loop.

It was also asked if this could be done for all teams in all divisions.  Have all teams play 1 home and 1 away and then re-categorize and play a second round of games before playoffs.  This would be fair to all teams, especially the teams that didn’t put themselves in the right category at the start of season.  It could be a 2 season schedule before playoffs.

What to do if you don’t have enough for 2 teams in your association but too many for 1 team.

You could register 1 team as rep team and 1 team as HL.  HL team can only play league.  Rep team can play league, tourneys and provincials.    Roster both teams with C players but all players should be played evenly and that never happens. They should play the bubble kids more on the HL team that were cut from the C team.  C players should not be scoring the goals on the HL team.  Rep teams are registered first with OWHA.

You can look up on IT sports (if your league uses IT Sportsnet) to see other rostered teams and that will tell you what associations have players playing on two teams.

 Treasurer Report

We are in the hole.  Waiting on payment still from some associations for All-Star jerseys.  Also more was spent on medals and banners this year.

Miscellaneous

There seemed to be a lot more suspensions this year.  Suspensions with 6 games and more.  Possibly the difference between OMHA and OWHA ref’s doing the girls games.  Discussion was held.

Joanne Innes spoke on behalf of OWHA

ITR deadline August 31, 2011.  Must do this on IT Sportsnet.  You need to trigger the team.  You also need to have your contact person for each team (manager) and your vote which is usually president/registrar or girls convenor for each association.

There is no tampering allowed.  If you know of an association or team that is tampering please let OWHA know so they can act on this. You can do this by filling out the proper forms and faxing/sending in to OWHA.

Permission to skate – must be active – can’t be expired.

Player Release – must have this in hand prior to allowing player to sign the roster.  Player can’t be part of the team or roster until release from another association and documentation in hand.  All paperwork must be done and complete before a player can skate with another team for tryouts and roster.

You can only play games against OWHA “teams” rostered with OWHA.  If you are playing with a US team, you must require permission from OWHA with the sanction form. You must have this okayed and signed by OWHA before you can play a game against a non sanctioned team.  The form is available on the OWHA website.

IT Sportsnet will have a list of teams that are approved with OWHA.  OWHA also emails all the teams that are registered.

OWHA General Meeting is September 15, 2011.

Categorization of Teams

All teams have up until Oct 1, 2011 to get themselves categorized (AA, A, BB, B, C). There was an amendment that if an association only has 1 competitive team in that age group that team must be registered as a B team.  Teams can choose to register HL. If an association’s team wants to be re-categorized they need to get 5 games in prior to applying to be re-categorized. It is important to play the 5 games as soon as you can for OWHA and league play. The amendment was passed at the OWHA AGM by the membership. If you have two teams in the same age category you can have a C team if you have a B team.

Rep teams can only play in Rep tournaments and HL teams can only play in HL tournaments.

Need to get the teams listed on WOGHL as soon as we can so that all teams/associations know what teams are playing at what levels.

OWHA will help us with that list of teams/associations as they put in their ITR’s and rosters.

Coaches/managers must follow all association rules and OWHA rules.  Make sure you know all the rules in the handbook.  No exceptions considered.  All teams get OWHA handbooks so make sure you read the important parts.

Ex second GM50 is an automatic 2 games.  Both OWHA and association can add games to the already two games.

Remember in dressing room must always have 2 deep.  Very important with girls hockey.

Bench Staff

You can only have the bench staff on your bench that is rostered to that team.  You can’t put another coach/trainer/manager from another rostered team in your association on that bench.  You can use the trainer from the other team playing but no one else can go on that bench unless they are rostered to that team.  It is not like OMHA where they have trainer at large, OWHA does not do that.  There should be 1 female on each bench, it is mandatory to have 1 female bench staff.

You can roster as many as you want, you can double list them on different girls rosters.  You can only have 5 on the bench during a game.

Concussions Step 7.  There are tools to download on this subject.  Go to the OWHA website for the articles listed on concussions.  www.owha.on.ca

Trainer can stop anyone from playing at any time. Always do the step 7 from the website.  Be careful about players not being assessed properly before going back on the ice.  Some parents are not taking their kids to see a doctor, parents wanting their girls on the ice without being accessed by a doctor. Again print off the Step 7 and follow it.

OWHA would like all officials to be OWHA certified when reffing girls games. If they are not please ask the ref’s some questions to see if they know how to ref an OWHA game. Please ask you assignors for referees that are OWHA certified for girls’ games.
